The admission test: how to get accepted into pilot training

The admission test at Greybird Pilot Academy is free and consists of four parts: a math test, a Raven test, a DISC PPA profile and an interview. None of the parts can alone qualify or disqualify you. It is the overall assessment that determines the result, and the interview carries the most weight. Here is the full process, part by part, and a practice booklet to prepare with.

What does the admission test consist of?

The math test confirms that your 9th grade math level is intact. There is no fixed failing score: with 75% or more you have definitely passed this part, and a lower score can still be enough depending on the rest of the test.

The Raven test is a logic test that shows us your ability to work with abstracts, hold a lot of information in your mind and draw conclusions rationally. An average level is sufficient to become a great pilot. You pass if you score average or above.

DISC PPA is not a test you can fail. It tells us about your preferences when you work, and as a student at Greybird you will be trained in DISC yourself. That makes you better at understanding your own reaction patterns (and other people's) both during the training and later in the cockpit.

The interview is the most important part. It takes 30-45 minutes, is held online and usually takes place about a week after the other tests. You talk with an education consultant, the head of training or the CEO, and the purpose is to understand who you are and why you want to become a pilot. Think of it as a job interview, with one difference: we are more interested in your potential than in your current skills.

If you do not pass, we always take the time to explain why, and in many cases we suggest what you can do to improve your chances next time.

From sign-up to contract: the 8 steps

The road from interest to a study place at Greybird Pilot Academy consists of 8 steps, and you can take the admission test all year round:

1. Attend an information meeting: free, about two hours, and your family is welcome to join.
2. Sign up for the admission test: it is free, and you will find the dates here.
3. Take the first part of the test: math test, Raven test and DISC PPA.
4. Get the school's answer: we contact you shortly after, tell you whether you are through, and plan the interview together with you.
5. Complete the interview: 30-45 minutes online, usually about a week later.
6. Book your Class 1 Medical: once you have passed the test, the health certificate is the next step. Read everything about the Class 1 Medical here.
7. Apply for admission: you upload your documentation, and your local education consultant calls you once you are accepted.
8. Sign the contract digitally: on a PC, tablet or smartphone. The digital copy you receive by email is your proof of admission.

What do you need for the application?

For the admission test and the application you need a digital copy of your criminal records, no more than one month old, plus proof of completed education at minimum 9th grade level (and any further education). Formally, you must also be at least 18 years old when the training starts, be able to communicate in English and hold a valid Class 1 Medical before you begin.
